August 16, 2008 BE A HOBBY BEEKEEPER SHORT COURSE, SATURDAY, 8:45 AM – 2:30 PM, CLAY COUNTY EXTENSION CENTER, 2463 SR 16 W, GREEN COVE SPRINGS
This course will allow the participants to receive a complete perspective of the process/expense involved with keeping honey bees as a hobby. It will be a hands-on course where participants will be involved with working with an active hive. At the end of the course we will demonstrate how honey is "robbed" from the bees and every participant will take home some local honey.
Course fee is $10; please register by August 13, 2008 at (904) 284-6355.
Note: As this activity involves direct contact with a stinging insect, no children under the age of 18 will be admitted to the Open Hive portion of the program.
AUGUST 27, 2008 4-H AWARDS BANQUET
6:30 pm, RSVP by August 21, 2008, If you do not call the 4-H office and sign up, you will not be able to eat, as this is a catered event.
AUGUST 28, 2008 NFBFG 11TH ANNUAL HAY & FARM FIELD DAY, 8am - 3pm, WW Ranch, Baldwin, FL.
Topic presented: Efficient Use of Alternative Sources of Fertilizers, Using a Grazing Stick to Improve Beef Cattle Nutrition Programs, Sprayer Calibration, Hay Quality Parameters, Establishment of Perennial Peanut in Pastures and Hay Fields, Herbicide Update: New Products & Fall Weed Control, Storing Hay Properly to Minimize Losses.
